Spot Light On Sandstone Paving - Why we use it for our Projects
When choosing paving materials for your garden project, there will seem to be a bewildering array available! If you visit your local stone or building merchant you will be dazzled by everything from natural stone to man made products. So today we are looking at one of the options available - natural Sandstone.
Sandstone Paving is a versatile natural product offered in a wide range of colours, sizes and finishes. A sedimentary rock composed of sand-size grains of mineral, rock, or organic material, It also contains a cementing material that binds the sand grains together. Sandstone pavers (paving slabs) are offered in a variety of finishes including a riven, sawn (smooth), tumbled or shot blasted finish.
A popular choice, Sandstone paving offers an economical choice for garden transformations.
USES Terraces / Patios / Paths / Steps / Coping stones
NOTES
Natural stone.
Subject to natural weathering and colours fade over time.
Can be riven, tumbled, sawn, shot-blasted plus other finishes.
Buffs, beiges, greys, pinks, greens.
Prone to algae in shady areas.
Range of sizes available including setts and cobbles. Bullnose finish for steps and coping stones.
Calibrated / non-calibrated.
Typically imported - Sandstone from India. Look for an ethically sourced product / supplier.
Economical option ££.
I hope I have managed to de-mystify Sandstone Paving for you. It is the paving product we use most often on our projects, as it is easy to lay, economical and comes in a good range of colours. It does have it's drawn backs though. Being porous it does weather and needs cleaning periodically.
