Bel was contacted by the owners of this rural garden as they were finding the extensive planted borders difficult to manage. The garden had been established by the previous owners who had clearly enjoyed their garden, but over time it had become weedy and overgrown. The new owners struggled to identify the key plants and their maintenance requirements and the weeds which blew and crept in from the surrounding fields impossible to control.
During an initial consultation and a good walk around the garden to identify the issues, Bel suggested a full clearance of the existing planting, saving a few plants which were worth keeping and reserving them for replanting. In carrying out a full clearance of the borders, weeds ad a tangle of overgrown plants would be removed and allow for a fresh start. A row of evergreen conifers planted by the previous occupants as a screen bore no relation to the rest of the garden and Bel suggested removing them and incorporating tall planting within the new planting scheme to offer an element of screening with out creating a solid green wall.
Bel also suggested reshaping some of the existing beds to be more generous in the large space and to link in with one another. Bel drew up a planting scheme to provide year-round colour and interest and to tie in with the feel of the rural setting. The large beds allowed to block of 3,5,7 or more plants to be grouped together to create a mass of colour rather than a hotch potch of plants. The Clients loved Lavender and had some success with it previously so were keen to plant some new plants within the renovated borders. Bel designed a curvaceous swath of Lavender Little Lady (Bel's favorite variety) on the sloping bed which would benefit from the sunny free-draining spot and give a wonderful display in mid-summer.
The garden was cleared by a team, removing a mass of overgrown shrubs and weeds and then preparing and rejuvenated the soil with plentiful quantity of compost ready for planting. During spring of 2020 Bel planted up the extensive 160 sq/m of borders with a selection of evergreen & deciduous shrubs, colourful perennials and ground covering plants, plus a few ornamental grasses to link in with the countryside views beyond. Roses were key too, Bel selecting varieties with colour, scent and rose hips in the autumn months for an extended season of interest.
Bel re-visited 6 weeks later to check on the planting and despite challenging weather conditions was very pleased to see everything filling out and establishing well. The very happy clients are looking forward to seeing the garden develop over the years.

We are absolutely delighted with our beautiful new garden designed and installed by Bel! We had an unusually shaped garden which we didn't have the knowledge to handle, but at the same time had quite specific ideas of what we liked and disliked. Bel listened to our ideas and the challenge didn't phase her at all! The preparation of the the soil by her team, and the planting of the garden by Bel herself over three days couldn't have gone smoother. We would highly recommend Bel in terms of her expertise, conscientiousness and friendly, easy going personality and we can't stop looking at our amazing new garden!

"Our 20 year old garden was looking tired and boring. No colour and a mishmash of plants that were past their sell-by date. We had no idea what to do to rescue the situation as we knew very little about what plants would do well. Then we found Bel. Our garden is transformed; beautiful colour that just keeps coming all through the year, easy maintenance and a joy to sit and look at with an appropriate glass in one hand. Bel interpreted our thoughts perfectly and has produced an extraordinary result. She is patient with non-gardeners, knowledgeable and highly professional. Not afraid to get her hands dirty and endlessly helpful. I simply cannot recommend her too highly."

"Bel has recently redesigned a large area in my garden which was previously a 'wilderness'. I was very pleased with the design that she came up with - it was clear that she had paid attention to what I had said I wanted and understood my style. Great communication throughout the process and now that the planting is finished I am looking forward to next spring and watching it develop."

Thank you very much Bel for your design to renovate our back garden. It’s been great to work with you, we really appreciated spending time with you to hear your ideas and develop those with you for a new vision for our garden. We love the pond and wild at the back of the garden and the new plants you’ve sourced have all settled in very well and we are excited to see how they will grow!

Absolutely delighted with our new garden. Bel’s design carefully incorporated all of our wish list and much much more.
Receiving the designs far exceeding our expectations and her subsequent coordination with her recommended landscapers made the project go without a hitch allowing us to work full time throughout, returning home to a little more transformation each day!
Her planting scheme was the cherry on the top. It's beautiful and we couldn't be happier with it. Eight weeks post planting the garden is thriving and we're really enjoying pottering around tending to it as per Bel's comprehensive maintenance instructions.
We couldn't be more delighted - thank you.
