The finishing touches to a grand property renovation project, the clients were looking to redevelop the large front garden to create an elegant entrance way and an area to enjoy year-round. When Bel was invited to look at the project, the area was set to lawn with just a small selection old fruit trees and an area which had been used by the builders during the property renovation. The clients were keen to create a garden with plenty of colour and structure which would provide the best display in the Autumn, Winter and Spring, as they are rarely in the country during the warmer summer months. As they had gardening help available, they were keen to develop large planting areas which divided up the long space.
Incorporating height into the design with the use of garden arches was an idea of the clients, which Bel was keen to work with. Bel developed a Concept Design Package with plans showing the new garden layout, features and materials. The design included a pair of 'Flower Circle' Arches at the space, which divide the garden in two and these are flanked by 2 oval lawns. Gravel mulched pathways connect the archways to the driveway and further planting areas, allowing easy access around the space.
The clients are keen to use the garden for entertaining, so Bel incorporated semi-mature trees and shrubs into the Planting Design Package, which will create privacy from the road in a couple of years time. A selection of shrubs and perennials where chosen to offer successional colour, structure and interest through out the year, with a predominance of colour in the Autumn and Spring months. The ample planting beds were top dressed with a fine bark mulch to reduce weeding and conserve moisture.
Landscaped and planted in October 2020, the garden will develop strongly over the next year and provide the clients with pleasure for years to come.
