Bel visited this Grade II listed barn conversion near Loughborough in August 2022. The space had become overgrown and the existing paving was beginning to fail, making the Courtyard a difficult place to use and manage - see before images below. The courtyard is looked out upon from all directions and surrounded by the converted dairy buildings, with 6 doorways leading into the space all at different levels.
The clients were looking to transform the space to make it a great space for the family to enjoy and for entertaining friends. They needed a dining space, lounge area, hot tub, Pergola, arches, lawn and planting to soften the extent of landscaping and the properties walls. Bel created a Garden Design Package to offer the clients a clean and easy to maintain space to fulfil their requirements, whilst offering attractive views out onto the space from the living areas and providing easy access from the doorways and around the courtyard. The 3D visuals Bel created allowed the clients to have a photo realistic view of the space, before they committed to having the scheme installed.

Clearing the tired landscaping and planting from the courtyard made a huge difference and opened up the space to light. A selection of materials were chosen to compliment the period brickwork, whilst also offering a brighter feel. Installed by one of Bel's preferred landscaping teams, the scheme was installed in summer 2023 and then planted by Bel and her team in the autumn, using a planting palette with a Mediterranean feel. Six months on the planting had filled out well and the clients were making full use of the courtyard...
